Chris Bell

Bell created the first unofficial "indie rock band" with singer Alex Chilton in 1971. The band only released one album (#1 Record) under Bell's songwriting, guitar playing, engineering and mixing guidance, but it was a classic. The singer-songwriter then went solo before dying a few years later in a bizarre car crash.
