The Man in the Iron Mask was certainly someone important, but definitely not Leonardo DiCaprio, as the film suggests. For centuries, historians have wondered who the mysterious prisoner was who was kept jailed in Bastille, and who remained masked until his death. Rumors have circulated that he was the twin brother of Louis XIV, with Louis ruling while his sibling was imprisoned. It is virtually certain that the Man was someone important and well known, there is little evidence pointing to any specific person.
