15 Scary Ways Companies Spy On You
Walmart Underwear
According to the Wall Street Journal, Walmart began installing RFID tags— radio frequency ID tags which continuously emit signals — in their apparel, allowing them to track how many parkas, pants, pumps and yes, even underwear that they have shipped and sold. The tags can be removed (if you know where to look) but they never stop broadcasting data. Burglars could check your garbage and read the RFID signals to learn exactly where you've been shopping and what you've bought.
In 2010, Walmart acknowledged using the chips, saying they are necessary to price-scanning and to create a "next-generation Walmart."
