In 1938, Switzerland native Maurice Bavaud tried countless times to kill Hitler. Once Bavaud got to Berlin, he learned Hitler was at his mountain retreat in Bavaria. Taking a train to Bavaria, Bavaud learned Hitler had just left. He missed chance to shoot Hitler during a parade in Berlin, at a location in Bavaria and, in Munich, just missed Hitler's private train as it left for Bavaria. Bavaud gave up, but was later caught by the Gestapo carrying plans to assassinate the Fuhrer, tried, found guilty and beheaded.
