A Friend's Betrayal
One night in 1934, Hitler had a number of his political allies rounded up and shot — including his former best friend, Ernst Rohm. When a group of armed Rohm supporters got the news, they confronted Hitler and his entourage on the road to Munich. Somehow Hitler persuaded the men not to shoot him then and momentarily escaped; the men then decided to ambush the Fuhrer farther down the road. At the last moment, Adolf ordered his driver to take another route home and escaped the Grim Reaper.
