Q: Why are you changing Court TV's name to truTV?
A: We want to broaden the appeal of the network. For several years, we've gradually shifted Court TV's primetime programming lineup beyond just trial coverage. By changing to a new name, we will let more viewers know that the network has evolved from its early days as only a place for trials.
Q: Are you still covering trials?
A: Absolutely. Our trial coverage will air under a separate name, IN SESSION, to make this important part of the day stand out from truTV. IN SESSION will be on from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (ET) each weekday. The truTV portion of the day will start at 3 p.m. (ET) and continue into the primetime hours and overnight.
Q: Will you drop programs that currently appear on Court TV?
A: No, the new truTV will actually look a lot like Court TV in terms of programming. truTV will continue to show many of the series that already appear on Court TV, including Most Shocking, Forensic Files and Hot Pursuit. New series are planned as well, such as NFL Full Contact, Over the Limit and Southern Fried Stings.
Q: Is truTV a reality network?
A: No. Our focus is on series that feature real-life situations. That is why we're using the theme "Not Reality. Actuality." for the network. The goal is to let people know that truTV programming is different from typical reality shows, which often involve contests or other highly staged events.
Q: Who owns truTV?
A: The network is part of Turner Entertainment Networks, which is a unit of Atlanta-based Turner Broadcasting System. Turner Broadcasting is owned by Time Warner.
Q: When was Court TV created?
A: 1991.
Q: How was the truTV name selected?
A: We did extensive research and considered thousands of possible names. truTV tested very well with consumers.
Q: What will happen to "Real. Exciting. Dramatic." on Court TV?
A: The R.E.D. action block has been used to brand Court TV's primetime lineup differently from daytime trials. We'll be retiring R.E.D. as we shift to "Not Reality. Actuality." However a primetime action block will continue to air weekdays from 8-9 p.m.
Q: I enjoy watching video clips at CourtTV.com. Will I still be able to see these when Court TV becomes truTV?
A: Yes. Clips from our exciting primetime lineup - plus many more - will continue to be available at truTV.com.
Q: I like to get trial news at CourtTV.com. What will happen to this coverage?
A: It will be moved to a new part of CNN.com called CNN.com/crime. CNN is also operated by truTV parent Turner Broadcasting System.
Q: Why has truTV been removed from my basic cable service?
A: Unfortunately, truTV has been moved to a different tier of service by your cable company. If you want to continue enjoying this network and its popular original series, you have other options to consider. You may upgrade your existing service to continue receiving truTV from your current cable company, or you may switch to a different service if there are other television providers in your market, such as DirecTV or AT&T.
